Jewelya Pack is an Appalachian artist, born and raised in the mountain state of West Virginia. She grew up  in the middle of the New River Gorge National Park. Visiting the river and hiking trails surrounded by fauna and flora almost every single day influenced who she was today, and thus, her artwork.

Deep in the mountains, there remains history of the coal industry with forgotten train tracks and left behind buildings, with vines and leaves crawling up the side of them. Jewelya’s pieces depict landscapes and themes of nature reclaiming buildings and having a role in every part of life.

Her mother, a mountain witch, inspires her in all aspects. Her love of magic and the spiritual influenced Jewelya’s art to create pieces about witches and other mystical subjects.

As an illustration student at Columbus College of Art and Design, she discovered her passion for concept art, environment and character design. There, she learned her passion for digital art. She honed her skills digitally and fell in love with photoshop.

As a former intern at Don Drumm Studios Art and Gallery, she saw all the crafts and traditional art around her, which inspired her to get back to her roots.

Now, her digital techniques mimic that of her traditional techniques. Her digital pieces include textures that resemble pencil grit and paint strokes. As she works, she always has a traditional element included.
